Pickin out Pumpkins

These are several weeks late but better late then never!
Jonny and I went to the Meadow Brook Farm to get out pumpkins.  We love it there.  They also have Christmas Trees during december so we plan to go back in a few weeks.
Pumpkins!

White Pumpkins

HUGE Pumpkins

I love looking at all the colors in Indian Corn

Jonnys apples :)

We left with 5 different pumpkins.  I forgot to take a picture of them!  We never got around to carving any of them, but I think I like it better that way.  It’s nice to have the small ones sitting around our apartment as fall decorations leading up to Thanksgiving.

Training for a 5k : Day 1

I wanted to do this back in {FEBRUARY} and now it’s August.  To be honest, I’m just glad I’ve got a plan and I’m actually starting on a Monday.  I don’t even have a 5K that I’m training for.  Some people have told me it’s easier when you have a tangible race like that to train for, but my plan is just to make it the next 9 weeks.

I have to modify the training schedule around my work schedule so that I’m not doing the hardest days on the most physically demanding days at my work.  I’m also trying to be realistic about what I’m capable of right now, and making sure I work up to the goal gradually.  I could run miles on an elliptical at the gym, but running on a sidewalk, outside, is something hard for me.

This week should go something like this:
{All running days include a 5 min warm up and cool down.}

Monday:  Run for 20 min, 60 seconds running alternating with 90 seconds walking
Tuesday: Walk for 20 min (or rest)
Wednesday: Run for 20 min, 60 / 90
Thursday: Walk for 20 min (or rest)
Friday: Rest
Saturday: Run for 20 min, 60 / 90 .
Sunday: Long, leisure walk 45-60 min

Oh ya.
I wish I could make this post more peppy, but I’m totally wiped out from this dang heat.  I learned today I’ve got to get up first thing in the morning if I’m going to stay motivated to keep going.

Our Newest Addition!

I don’t know if you noticed in the previous post, the little white dog sitting between the couches.  That’s Bailey!  We adopted her a little over a week ago and we love her to pieces. She is a four year old, American Eskimo.
American Eskimos come in three sizes, (like poodles) standard, miniature, and toy.  Bailey is the miniature size.  The breed is known for its high intelligence and obedience.  Many are used in agility competitions and were some of the first dogs used for performance acts in traveling circuses.  (In fact the first dog to walk a tight-rope was an American Eskimo!)  They are great guard dogs, but easily warm up to people once introduced by their owners.  They love the snow, bonus for living in Wisconsin.  Bailey and Packer get along great together and we all feel like we have our own version of a family going on over here. :)

Living Room

My husband got set in his mind that we needed to rearrange the living room.  So, we did just that.  Now that it’s all clean and pretty, I figured I should take a few pictures.

“Artwork” I stenciled to fill up our blank wall.

These are fake, scented lemons that I love!

Floor pillows {I } that I scored at an awesome price at TJ Maxx.
Our apartment doesn’t have any overhead lighting (except for in the kitchen) so we have lots of floor and table lamps.  This is the crystal detail on one of them. (Another awesome find at TJ Maxx)

Curtains from World Market

 Rug from Home Depot.

My not so favorite thing in our living room is Packer’s cat tree that sits in front of the window so that he can see outside.
I’ve got some BIG plans for this side table, which include painting, lots of “destressing”, a stencil, and wheels…
Stay tuned!

Bookcase

I had a pretty stressful day last Friday, and so I did the obvious thing to take my mind off it, and painted a bookcase…

Tough Mudder T – Shirts!

My brother-in-law participated in Tough Mudder in Madison today.  I had the opportunity to put together a T-shirt design for their group.  It’s not that big of a deal; it was just fun for me to design something and then see it on a “product”. :)

About to get all muddy!!

My Kitchen

I’m feeling a little vulnerable letting you see into my apartment.  I don’t have a house that I can do real makeovers to. We live in a little two bedroom apartment, but it’s our apartment, and I’m doing everything I can to make it feel less apartment-y.
Here is our kitchen when we first moved in:

And our table in our old place. (I ended up painting it white)
I decided I wanted to take a chance and took off three cabinet doors.  We aren’t allowed to paint the wall in our apartment so I wanted to find a way to add some color and interest to the cabinets.  I ended up wrapping this fabric around some cardboard…real fancy huh… and shoved it into the back of each shelf.
I measured each shelf space and cut the cardboard just a tad smaller to fit.
Cut the fabric around the cardboard form and put a little bit of fabric glue around the edges.
I made sure to at least fold the corners nicely when I added packing tape. :)
Just a little more packing tape…& voila!

Kitchen Sneak Peek

I’ve got a long overdue post coming up tomorrow!  I finally took the time to take a few pictures of my kitchen (and “dining” room).  I do live in an apartment that I’m only allowed to do minimal things to, so please don’t judge me too harshly :) please, and thank you.
The *Highlight*  will be the fabric backed cabinet tutorial!

Agency Handout

About a month ago I was called to be the Beehive Advisor at church.   For anyone who doesn’t know what that means, I teach the 12 & 13 year old girls every Sunday.  One of our lessons was on agency.  It was the first lesson I was teaching and I was thoroughly freaking out. :)  Everything went pretty smoothly, at least thats what I keep telling myself.  I think it was a good starting point and hopefully I will get better each Sunday.

Oh ya, like I said, our lesson was on agency and this was the handout I made for the girls!  Sorry in advance for the crummy pictures, it was late at night and I had bad lighting.

I wrapped packs of gum in scrapbook paper.

I created this on photoshop, then printed, cut up, and glued it to the top.

I added a little tulle for an extra boost.

All the supplies, other then the gum, I already had!  Sweet deal.
